Thanks for contacting us. We always enjoyed flying in support of the Green Berets, I can remember many times shutting down in my Mad Dog Gunship at Long Thanh North and waiting while you guys did your reconnaissance missions. When you had to be extracted, our Greyhound Slick and Mad Dog Guns would crank up and go get you guys. I wasn't in the company at the time of the MSG. Benavidez mission but I do know some of the names. I will also put you in touch with Noel Benavidez, MSG. Benavidez's son at firstname.lastname@example.org and he will be able to tell you much more. Also, Paul "Frenchy LaChance, my Pal and Partner with the website, newsletter and reunion, was on the mission that day, his Mad Dog Gunship took about 50 hits! He can be reached at FRENCHY0@aol.com . Here is the link to the page we have honoring CMOH Recipient MSG. Roy P. Benavidez and there are a list of names on there. http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/8061/tribute.html MSG. Roy Benavidez Also to be updated and whose names are not on that list, CW2 Jim Fussel, the co-pilot with Bill Armstrong, who flew quite a bit after Bill Armstrong was shot in the head and, Jim Pier, a Greyhound doorgunner was also on the mission at that time. Here are the links to our two websites: http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/7648/maddog.html LZ of the 240th AHC and http://www1.50megs.com/240thahcfl/index.html 240th AHC Flightline. We are trying to find more of the guys that were on that mission that day with MSG. Benavidez.
Those guys will be thrilled to be included on your MOH page with MSG. Benavidez. For many years they never received any credit for their actions on that day, they all felt they were just doing their job, that is until Noel Benavidez went to work on it and got them some recognition. Noel is still working on that right now. I realize there might not be a lot of photos and we'll just wait and see. If not, we'll put op some graphics and a photo or two of our slicks and gunships to show the great working relationship and mutual respect we have for one another. I see your URL below your name and I will go and check out the website. Do you have a links page? If so, we would be honored to be able to have a mutual link with you. We have a link already to the Special Forces Association, Chapter 44 on LZ of the 240th AHC. Take care and thanks for contacting me. If I can be of more help, don't hesitate to email me.
